Breath

Breath In the astral-vital organisms of living beings the breath is called prana, which also means "life." This is not limited to the respiratory functions, but includes what physiologists might call nerve currents operating in all parts of the body, of which the pulmonary diastole and systole is only a particular manifestation. Hatha yoga deals with the study and use of these functions, but before such aspects of the lower knowledge can be profitably or even safely used, the learner must have acquired self-mastery, stability, and disinterestedness of motive.
The ceaseless alternate outflowing and inflowing of cosmic life or hierarchies of lives of the one manifest reality is called the Great Breath from its analogy to physiological breathing, which implies incessant alternating motion, expansion and contraction, of life, air, wind, or spirit. The sevenfold word symbolizing the logos is said to be the evolution of the breath. Though the alternation of manvantara and pralaya conjoined are the Great Breath, the alternating motion does not cease even during the long pralayic ages.
Breath is often used in the same sense as ray, wind, spirit, pneuma, to denote an active emanation which is at once active and passive, positive and negative, donative and receptive, the principle of polarity later in cosmic evolution becoming pronounced. An instance is when the divine breath incubates the waters of space, and worlds are produced. Absolute perpetual motion is the breath of life of the one element, and is applied to fohat. In Sanskrit it is expressed among other words by asu, the true root of asura (a living or spiritual being). In Hebrew several words express it, varying according to the spiritual or grosser meaning: neshamah, ruah, or nephesh. In Greek philosophy perhaps the main word used in this sense in pneuma, equally well translated as spirit.
The plural "breaths" is used to denote spirits or forces, such as the Ah-hi, dhyani-chohans, asuras, the holy circumgyrating breaths, and the seven breaths or divisions of the Logos. There may also be right- and left-hand breaths, or breaths (winds) from the four, six, or eight directions, each having its own specific quality and functions. In general, breath stands for the air element.
“He who has control of his breath also has control over his mind,” says the Chandogya Upanishad.
Ayurvedic Medicine, which means the science of life, and comes from the Hindu holistic system of medicine and health, says that we get chi (life force) from genetics, food, water and the air we breathe. The dolphin utilizes the flow of breath to facilitate movement. Dolphins also use breath to create sounds used for communication with other members in their pod. We have all observed endurance athletes in action. Their movements appear to be easy and effortless with little of no difficulty breathing. This is akin to the breath of the dolphins - like having fluidity in movement.
Breath is something we have all been doing for a number of years, but typically take for granted as long as we breathe. Breath is closely correlated to levels of stress and anxiety. Our breath moves in and out effortlessly when we are c comfortable and relaxed. However, increased stress and anxiety levels cause our breath to becomes difficult and hard.
Brian took his breath for granted until en countering heart palpitations in June 1984. This would send him to the emergency room a few times and dealing with three different cardiologists. His situation was ultimately determined to be the result of a mild abnormality of the electrical system.
Brian was told that the heart was like any muscle – use it or lose it. He became personally aware of the changes in breath through joining a gym and beginning to run in order to increase his cardiovascular strength.
Brian engaged in Tai Chi which taught him various breath styles, such as natal breath, fire breath, alternate nostril breathing, etc. Natal breath is where we do not breathe consciously as we know it, and this is what allows babies to be born under water. Tai Chi meditation enabled Brian to experience an expanded awareness of breath. In the practice of yoga, pranayama, which is the science of breath, is a way to realign the body/mind for it to function harmoniously.
Brian was introduced to transformational breath work by Michelle. These sessions enabled him to release emotions which had been held for years. One of the personal benefits Brian experienced was his resting heart rate dropped almost 10 beats per minute within a week of his fourth Transformational Breath session!! He was so impressed with this method that he became a certified transformational breath work facilitator. Brian and Michelle began to expand their client's sessions by incorporating other breathing techniques from yoga, Tai Chi, energy healing, vibrational sound therapy, and other modalities to assist with their client's physical and emotional health.
As facilitators of numerous breath sessions and workshops, we have concluded that the physical body registers where deeply seated emotions are held. This has created areas of pain and disease in the body, where oxygen has been limited due to a negative pattern of emotional repression. Dr. Kravitz says that cancer cannot grow where there is oxygen.
Brian and Michelle began correlating client's breath with their digestive and elimination issues. Those with elimination issues have difficulty in letting go of the breath (exhaling). Those with digestive issues have difficulty taking in the “new” which includes breathing. The fuller breath will enable the individual to receive more good from the universe and to transform “negativity” from his/her being.
As the individual releases the physical or emotional pain through the body then the mind and both are free to receive the healing. The result is a more complete and full breath - both inhaling and exhaling. This deep oxygenation of the body creates deep inner peace and cleanses all the tissues and cells in the body of toxins. Breath work sessions in private or as a group session is effective for people of all ages and activity levels. A breath work session lasts one hour and is performed on a mat on the floor. The individual is advised to wear loose comfortable clothing.
Overall, the results from breath work are extremely powerful as a transformative tool which increases feelings of love, joy, sexual libido and vitality in your life.
Private Sessions are by appointment. Group classes are offered regularly at various locations see calendar of events for a schedule.
